The Role of Common Physical Properties and Augmental Functions in Metaphor Effect

Experimental 2x2 study (N=83) manipulating the presence of common physical properties and augmental functions in metaphors used before a cold-pressor task. Both variables significantly increased pain tolerance, suggesting that including physical properties and augmentals can enhance the therapeutic effect of metaphors.
