Common Physical Properties Improve Metaphor Effect Even in the Context of Multiple Examples

Experimental study (N=84) with cold-pressor task showing that metaphors incorporating physical properties common to the participant's distress increase therapeutic effect (greater pain tolerance), regardless of whether multiple metaphors or repetitions are presented. Training therapists to design metaphors with common physical properties is recommended.
